Lonely NightsI do puzzles until the nurses close the shutters and turn off the lights.Shadows slide over the floor, sweet whispers in the darknessechoing the dimly lit breaths of the patients next door. It's lonely inside, and I can't find myself.
The MedicantsI take pills of lithium, valium, and sertraline, zyprexa and rispiridone, swallowing down while the spirits of Etruscan birds point and scream.
Birdie and NicoleBirdie and Nicole are here in the ward with me again. And we walk the familiar halls of the psychiatric ward. They look so much better, well and happier. Nicole's feeding tube is gone. They're both discharged this afternoon, and I wonder if they'll ever have to return.
